Golftempotracks are a tempo training aid for the golfer who is already set with a basic swing. Tempo tracks afford the opportunity to acquire steady tempo with the use of easy to remember tempo tracks.
The GTT tracks are uniquely designed to be looped on any mp3 player, and to play continuously while practicing on the driving range. This translates to a very cost-efficient means of using one of a few tempo training aids currently available.
Each track starts with background music which is designed for an enjoyable balance between calm and alertness. Following a few “get ready” prompts, the golftempotracks signature rhythm provides an intuitive structure to help understand and execute key swing elements with good timing. The best way to get a feel for it is to simply watch the videos.
Tempo and rhythm are some of the more elusive elements in the pro swing, but through listening to custom tracks, good rhythm is within reach. The easiest way for anybody to generate good rhythm is with something familiar - like a favorite tune. The golfer can internalize tempo and rhythm in a straightforward manner by means of listening and practicing, and this is where Golftempotracks makes something so elusive into something which is very accessible and also rewarding.
Listen as you watch the videos. The four drum beats generally correspond to takeaway, backswing, transition, and impact.
Even though a rhythm such as this would imply that certain swing parts be precisely timed, this is not necessarily the case. Golftempotracks approach is to provide a simple, intuitive, and stable groove to play in the background of your existing swing.
With increased practice, remembering these tunes will be your best ally on the course. You will not only be able to hear a track as part of your routine, but you will also likely develop an ability to create new “tempo images” for different shots as part of your routine which may be variations of your core tempo.
A tempo value, (expressed as “beats per minute”, or "BPM") determines how fast or slow a rhythm is played. A rhythm, on the other hand, is a sequence of long and short notes that can be played at any tempo. Rhythm is composed music; tempo is the speed the composition is played. Golftempotracks employs one signature rhythm. This rhythm is included in every video and mp3, and is Golftempotracks signature rhythm. Variations of this signature rhythm are offered at faster and slower speeds for each tempo track.
We should note also that “good rhythm” is defined in the golf world as a swing with internally consistent timing. A swing with “good rhythm” is a swing a golfer can depend on even on a bad day. This is always executed with the golfers optimal tempo, with the result being good ball striking. Using a tempo training aid is a great way “good rhythm” can be achieved.
Any Golftempotracks video will have a "native" tempo indicated on the video as a starting point. The mp3s will offer faster and slower versions of the same piece.
Here’s an example:
You might like the sound of “Bermuda” from watching the video. Good start…..but the tempo seems a little slow to you. Since the native version (noted on the video) is 66 BPM you might go to the mp3 section and sample "Bermuda 70 bpm" which will be slightly faster and more to your personal swing tempo.
There should be an icon in the display of your mp3 player that looks something like a circle with with arrows that indicates continuous play or cycle. In the case of the iPod- selecting this and clicking on it until the icon has a "1" in it will tell the mp3 player to repeat the one song continuously. Other players may have variations on this- so consult the manual if this is still unclear.
